WHEREVER SAOIRSE RONAN goes, and whatever movie she works on, she always seems to make a friend or two.
After she worked on Lady Bird with Greta Gerwig, the pair of them were inseparable for most of awards season, providing us with plenty of entertainment at the start of the year. Saoirse and Greta hit it off from the very start, with Greta revealing that she cast Saoirse in minutes. Saoirse had approached Gerwig with the script and said “I know I’m from Ireland and a tiny town all the way across the world, but I’m telling you: I know this and I know this story and I know this girl. I need to do this.” Greta Gerwig was sold, and her hasty decision paid off.
The chemistry between them was so amazing, that Greta Gerwig decided to cast Saoirse Ronan in a second film, the 2019 version of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. It’s not going to be released until at the very least winter 2019, but that’s not going to get in the way of our excitement.
Playing it safe, Greta Gerwig made the directorial decision to cast another Lady Bird actor in Little Women – Timothée Chalamet, who Saoirse Ronan is also great pals with (despite their infuriating onscreen relationship).
Saoirse and Timothée are going to star alongside a heap of other massive names like Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, James Norton and Emma Watson. It’s really only up and up for Saoirse, isn’t it? First Mary Queen of Scots, now this.
We’re a long, long way from the release of Little Women but last night Emma Watson shared the first photograph from behind the scenes with Saoirse, Greta and Timothée as well as Florence Pugh and Eliza Scanlen.
Back in October, Timothée shared a very blurry, low res photo of Saoirse Ronan swinging out of Greta Gerwig during rehearsals.
We wholeheartedly welcome all future updates on this project. Also, judging by the publicity tour Saoirse went on for Mary Queen of Scots alongside Margot Robbie, we are looking forward to seeing her tour the talk show circuit with Timothée, Greta and Emma.
